JOHN F. KENNEDY G CHRIS CARTER IS OFFICIALLY AN OHIO STATE BUCKEYE

COLUMBUS —  John F. Kennedy (Cleveland) offensive guard Chris Carter is officially an Ohio State Buckeye, according to the University.

The 6-foot-6, 355-pound Carter, who was supposed to sign his letter of intent back on Feb. 2, was unable to do so after being held in a Cleveland jail overnight on the eve of national signing day for suspicion of sexual imposition.

NINE FORMER BUCKEYES TO COMPETE AT 2011 NFL SCOUTING COMBINE

INDIANAPOLIS — Nine former Ohio State football players will take part in the 2011 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, which gets underway on Saturday and runs thru Tuesday.

Each athlete will be examined by every NFL team at the event. The players will compete within their position groups in events such as the bench press, 40-yard dash, skill drills, vertical leap, broad jump, three-cone drill and shuttle drill.

OSU HEAD COACH JIM TRESSEL TO HOLD TWO BOOK SIGNINGS IN MARCH

COLUMBUS — If you are in the Columbus area and would like to cop an autograph from Ohio State head football coach Jim Tressel, then you're in luck.

The Buckeyes mentor, who has written a new book titled Life Promises for Success: Promises from God on achieving your best — which retails at $9.99 — will be holding two book signings early next month in Columbus.

The first signing will be on Monday, March 7 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. inside the Costco at 1500 Gemini Place (Must be a Costco member to have book signed).

COLUMBUS — Ohio State may be losing two outstanding senior cornerbacks in Devon Torrence and Chimdi Chekwa, but what they picked up on national signing day may ease the pain a little.

The Buckeyes signed two standout cornerbacks from the class of 2011 last Wednesday in Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary all-American Doran Grant and Toledo Rogers star athlete DerJuan "Peewee" Gambrell — a couple of players who not only bring a boat load of speed and ability to the defensive backfield, but according to OSU cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson, are also prototype Buckeyes in every sense of the word.

COLUMBUS — When Under Armour All-American linebacker Ryan Shazier decided that he was going to enroll at Ohio State early, the native of Plantation, Florida didn't truly know what he was getting himself into.

No, it wasn't the great competition at linebacker or the veteran Buckeye players who were intimidating the freshman when he arrived on campus early last month. It was mother nature who had the 6-foot-2, 210-pound backer shaking in his shoes.

COLUMBUS — When Huber Heights (OH) Wayne star quarterback Braxton Miller committed to Ohio State last June, he said one of the major reasons he declared to the Buckeyes so early was that the coaching staff told him he would be the only quarterback offered for the class of 2011.

Miller — who is already enrolled at Ohio State — has a great possibility of being the Buckeyes starting quarterback in the team's first five games this fall, while senior Terrelle Pryor serves a suspension handed down by the NCAA.

COLUMBUS — National Signing Day ended for Ohio State Wednesday evening with 23 players inking their letter of intent with the Buckeyes.

"We've got a little bit of everything, as we like to do," Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel said Wednesday. "We've got guys who are versatile, balanced ... guys who have done a lot of different things.

NATION'S TOP PREP LINEBACKER CURTIS GRANT CHOOSES BUCKEYES

RICHMOND, Va. — Ohio State got their man.

Richmond (Va.) Hermitage star linebacker Curtis Grant announced on Wednesday afternoon that he will be donning the Scarlet and Gray next fall. Grant (6-3, 220) selected the Buckeyes over the likes of Florida, North Carolina and Virgina, among many others.

CLEVELAND — Ohio State class of 2011 commit, offensive guard Chris Carter, was arrested Tuesday after being accused of fondling underage girls at his high school, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

The 6-foot-4, 335-pounder from John F. Kennedy (OH) High School in Cleveland — who committed to the Buckeyes last March — was held in jail overnight on suspicion of sexual imposition.

We'll have more on this situation as details are presented, including possible statements from Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel today, regarding Carter's scholarship status.

BUCKEYES MISS OUT ON BALTIMORE STAR ATHLETE DARIUS JENNINGS

BALTIMORE — Ohio State hasn't began National Signing Day the way they were hoping, as Baltimore (Md.) Gilman star athlete Darius Jennings announced early on Wednesday morning that he will be playing at the University of Virginia next fall. 

The Under Armour All-American selected the Cavaliers over the Buckeyes and Wake Forest, among others.

GLENVILLE QB CARDALE JONES TO OSU; OL AUNDREY WALKER TO USC

CLEVELAND — Ohio State's pipeline to Glenville (OH) High School is still partially in tact, as Tarblooders star Cardale Jones, announced on Wednesday morning in Cleveland that he will be playing his collegiate football for the Buckeyes.

Jones follows in the footsteps of former Glenville stars like Troy Smith, Ted Ginn Jr., Donte Whitner, Bryant Browning, Jermale Hines and many others, who traded in the Tarblooder red and black for Ohio State Scarlet and Gray.
